The 1.4 U2 CRDi diesel variant which comes with 6 speed manual transmission gearbox delivers a power of 90 Ps. The torque of the diesel car is 22.4 kg-m, which is considered to be the best in this class.
The petrol variants of the reincarnated i20 are plonked with the 1.4litre Gamma with 4-speed automatic transmission and the 1.2 litre Kappa engine with 5 speed manual transmission. Most of the petrol trims are manual transmission version; however, one of them is automatic. The one with 5 speed manual transmission gearbox is affixed with 1.2 litre Kappa engine t hat belts out 84 Ps at 5200 rpm of peak power and max torque of 11.4 kgm at 4000 rpm. Introduction of dual VTVT (Variable Timing Valve Train) mechanism has brought a considerable rise in mileage which now stands at 18.5 kmpl. The cylinder block and head made of aluminum alloy lowers down the weight of engine and increases its efficiency.

The soft suspension and the slack steering means no enjoyment when it is driven around bends.Hyundai i20 is a very safe car by all means with an ultimate braking system. The car is packed with ABS (Anti Lock Braking System) with EBD that helps in preventing wheel lock up during panic braking. The front brakes of Hyundai i20 are Disc brakes across the variants. The rear brakes are disc brakes in variants carrying 1.4 petrol engine while drum brakes are used for rear wheels in those variants which feature 1.2 petrol engine. There is a choice between disc and drum rear brakes in the diesel powered i20 cars.
The suspension of the Hyundai i20 is very much distinctive and very efficient with front suspension of Mc Pherson strut with Gas shock absorber, rear suspension of couple torsion beam axle with gas shock absorber. The rear shock absorber as gas filled as well as telescopic dual acting type. The suspensions are fine tuned which helps in keeping stability of i20 for comfortable drive. The large wheelbase of 2525 mm maintains the calm on bumps. The segment first manual transmission shift indicator acts as an alert for driver to change gears with displaying the recommended gear usage. Driving was never so easy before i20.
