Nissan's Duster clone named Terrano

Nissan today revealed the name of its Duster-based SUV as the 'Terrano.' It will be produced at the company's Oragadam Plant and will be priced above the Renault as per the Renault-Nissan Alliance

It's been known for a while now that Nissan is working on its version of the Renault Duster SUV in India under the Renault-Nissan Alliance. The Japanese car maker has now announced the name of its Duster clone -- Terrano.

The Terrano nameplate is being brought back as the re-badged Duster by Nissan as the original Nissan Terrano was a mid-size SUV that was in production from 1993 to 2006.

Nissan’s version of the Duster, like most badge re-engineered vehicles, will feature cosmetic changes which as per the rendering look rather attractive.

The Japanese car maker has given the Terrano a new front end comprising a new bonnet with a prominent power dome, an attractive grille with Nissan’s trademark ‘V’ shaped design theme with chrome bars running from bumper to bonnet, new angular headlamps and a chunkier bumper with a lower bull bar design and prominent fog lamp housings. The side profile of the Nissan Terrano rendering gets a crease stretching from the lower end of the front apron to the rear wheel arch along with a frameless window look. The Terrano is also likely to get new tail lights and a restyled tail gate.

Considering the heavy exterior styling changes, it is likely that due to budget constraints, the interiors of the Nissan Terrano will remain the same as the Renault Duster's. The Renault SUV is available in three trim levels for the diesel model and two trim levels for the petrol model. The Terrano, too, may be available with the same trim options considering that the interiors will remain unchanged.

Mechanically, the Nissan Terrano will continue to be powered by the 1.5 litre dCi engine that is available in two states of tune on the Duster.  It is not known yet if the Terrano will come with a petrol engine though the Duster does with a 1.6-litre engine.

Ford EcoSport

Introduced to buyers in India in as many as 10 trims, both petrol and diesel, the entry-level Ambiente trim will sell for a starting price of Rs 5.59 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi)

The wait for one of the country’s biggest launches this year is now over as Ford had announced earlier, it has indeed launched its EcoSport MINI SUV with three engine options; a 1.0-litre petrol EcoBoost plus the 1.5-litre petrol and diesel motors that power the new Fiesta sedan. While the 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine develops a maximum of 125PS of power, the 1.5-litre petrol and diesel units put out 112PS and 91PS respectively.

To start with, there will be four variants of the new Ford EcoSport on offer, which, in order of features and prices, are Ambiente, Trend, Titanium and Titanium (O). With the compact SUV model now officially on sale here in India, interested buyers may walk into a Ford dealership and pre-book the EcoSport after paying an amount of Rs 5.59 lakhs

While the top-of-the-line variants pack fancy equipment and commendable technology, even the entry-level Ambiente variant offers decent amount of standard equipment including power steering, air-conditioning, electric ORVMs with indicators, front power windows, theatre dimming interior lights, Bluetooth radio with AUX and USB connectivity, dual tone interiors and remote central locking. The voice activated Sync technology on the new Ford EcoSport has over 150 in-built voice commands (Read : Ford EcoSport variant highlights).

Selling in seven solid body colours the four basic variants of the Ford EcoSport will be offered to buyers in a total of 10 trims, starting with the basic 1.5 petrol model, which will sell for Rs 5.59 lakh, the 1.5 diesel-spec which has been priced at Rs 6.69 lakh and the much anticipated 1.0 EcoBoost petrol model carrying a price tag of Rs 7.90 lakh. The high-end automatic transmission 1.5 petrol EcoSport model at Rs 8.45 lakh isn’t a bad deal either.

The seats are reasonably large and supportive and semi-cloth premium seat upholstery is used to cover them. Boot space is something on which car can trump over its competitors. But buyers will have to mull for long over knee-room for rear-seat passengers which is supposed to be tight, especially when there’s a tall driver at the wheel.

EON is based on fluidic model of Hyundai for smooth and comfortable journey. The five-seater car features power and tilt steering, front power windows, armrests, air conditioner and 3 spoke metallic finish steering wheel in the partially and fully loaded variants but the base variant of Hyundai EON is devoid of these features. However, exclusive dashboard storage with pedestal space, cup holders and 3 assist grips are present on the base D Lite model. Driver seat adjustment will be manual and remote levers for fuel lid and tail gate are standard in all variants. The interior space is said to be better than Maruti Alto with good amount of leg space. A 5-speed manual gearbox can be seen in the cabin with a digital gear shift indicator in futuristic instrument panel. EON sports a CD player with Radio and MP3, USB support with AUX-in port and remote locking (not in all 6variants).
